Manufacturers - Rowe Technologies
Rowe Technologies was founded in 2009 by Fran Rowe, the originator of the Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) and the Doppler Velocity Log (DVL), and founder of Teledyne RDI. Rowe Technologies employs a highly innovative staff with over 250 years of experience in design, development, and manufacturing of leading-edge sonar systems for ocean, lake, and river applications.
The ADCP is a hydro-acoustic instrument or sonar device that is used to measure water velocities in discrete layers over a range dependent upon the acoustic frequency. The device transmits a 4-beam sound signal [ping] of a specific frequency and measures the Doppler-return frequency that is reflected from particles in the water column. This translates into a velocity relative to the reflection point, either a water layer or the bottom.
A DVL tracks the seafloor or river bottom, and additionally, provides a current profile to the bottom. This tracking enables accurate underwater navigation for submarines, autonomous and remotely operated vehicles. All Rowe Technologies products have dual functionality and can function as an ADCP or as a DVL.
Rowe [the pioneer of Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers] and his sons, RoweTech is a technology-based company with the main office located in Poway, CA, USA. RoweTech’s ADCP/DVL competitive advantage is a single-unit configuration which allows simultaneous current profile and bottom tracking.
